Today Should be a Holiday

I am an advocate for people to vote. I don't care who you vote for or how you vote on issues, just as long as you vote. However, today I have heard so many students talk about how they wanted to help make history today but couldn't because of classes. This infuriated me, especially since early voting has been going on for quite some time.

Due to college students not always being on the ball by taking advantage of absentee ballots or the early vote option, I feel the general election day should be viewed as a holiday. This is a day that only comes around every four years, so giving students the day off from classes would not be an inconvenience. Young adults can head home to their respective county or stand in line to vote and not worry about missing class. Voting is a huge responsibility and right! If college is really trying to prepare us for the real world, they should observe election day and give students the chance to make a difference.
