Dear Mr. Obama Video

Like other wars in the past, the Iraq war is a major issue in this election. I am not sure if I exactly support the war itself, but I do support the troops; I have many people who are close to me in the Army or other branches of defense. As most of you know, I am a moderate but I am favoring one candidate more than another. However, after seeing this video, I might be reevaluating my stance on some issues.

Katalyn,
I loved this video. I honestly was never too supportive of the war because I wasn't really sure of what we were fighting for, or honestly why we were there. However, I feel that supporting your troops is important and I have learned if you don't support the war, in a way you are not supporting the people losing their lives for it. Husbands, brothers, sons and daughters, how can someone attack an issue when people everyday are giving up everything they love to fight for what they believe in. To fight so we don't have to. When my brother decided he wanted to join the military I was scared, don't get me wrong, but I found a sense of pride that cannot come about from any other self-less act. So next time you talk about how stupid the war is or how you don't support what we are doing, think about the lives lost and the families suffer because of it..Now what smartass thing do you have to say.........
That's what I thought, NOTHING!

Ugh, I couldn't restrain myself from commenting here. Yes, I support the troops. I supported one in particular for four years and yes they make sacrifices and their families, I believe, make bigger ones. I used to get very passionate when speaking about this ‘war’ with firm beliefs our troops shouldn’t be there without a plan or reason. But at the end of the day, they signed up for what they are doing. There is no draft and despite what most middle class or lower citizens think, there are other options after high school if the military is not your goal. I heard time after time, base after base, 'This was my only option, I don't want to be here.' In this scenario the military becomes cult-like. Sucks you in, promises the world and you have to stay no matter how many beliefs and values you compromise for them along the way.

You can support the troops, they are brave and selfless and deserve that, and at the same time you can disagree with the position they have been put in. I do. They were sent over there because they couldn’t say no. Don't for one moment think they want to be there because for every one child who hugs them, five others throw rocks. At the end of the day we don't know what it is like there. Brothers and boyfriends will never tell us what goes on there, so we guess. We only know what we know, and we are never going to be part of that club that knows the whole truth. Therefore, we support our friends and families and we sometimes hide our true thoughts from them. We can’t lie to ourselves though, we don’t want them there. I always believed in him, in all of them, but I never believed in the reasons they were given for why they were going to fight there in the first place.
